Think it's not easy being green? Try being hungry. During a primetime special, Growing Hope Against Hunger (airing Sunday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. ET, on PBS), Sesame Street is introducing a new muppet named Lily to help teach its viewers about hunger issues. Like nearly 17 million American children, Lily's family struggles to get nutritious food on the table. Sometimes they visit a food pantry, and she gets two meals a day through a program for underprivileged kids at her school.
Lily will costar opposite Brad Paisley and his wife Kimberly Williams Paisley in the one-hour special, which will also feature other Muppets and actual kids talking about what it's like to live without enough food. One little girl explains that her father can't afford to pack her a snack, so she fills her stomach with water from the fountain. Take a look at the highlight reel for the special below:
"We are honored that Sesame Street, with its long history of tackling difficult issues with sensitivity, caring and warmth asked us to be a part of this important project," the Paisleys said in a statement.
Kudos to Sesame Street for continuing this legacy of compassionate education.
